From My Point of View: My Review of Sandals Royal Barbados

Spending time at any Sandals resort has always been a dream of mine.

Think ultimate luxury, butler service, beach, unlimited drinks, no kids, great food, amazing service, sun shinning great quality time with my husband.

In November 2018 my hubby and I traveled to The Sandals Royal Barbados and it did not disappoint at all.

We were lucky enough to have gone to Sandals Royal Barbados for my birthday, and I can honestly admit that our butlers did not disappoint in helping me to celebrate the day. I am going to be honest here and say we met some AMAZING people while we were here and they truly helped make my day extra special.

Some highlights from the resort, first of all Sandals has two resorts in Barbados. They are right beside each other making it one big resort.

When we arrived on Barbados, like many Caribbean islands, when the plane landed and it was time for us to exit, you exit on the tarmac and then board buses which take you to the building of the airport. Customs was easy to get through and we didn’t have to wait too long. Maybe 25 mins at the most. Sure it would have been great to wait less than that, but hey we are on vacation and I didn’t really mind. Waiting for our luggage was the worst!! We waited almost 90 mins for our bags. They were only coming down the carousel 3 bags at a time.

Once our bags arrived, we found the Sandals desk right outside. We had paod for a private transfer to the resort – which was mean to be there when we arrived, however we ended up waiting almost another 45 mins for our transportation to arrive when 2 buses had come and gone with guests. Not a great first impression Sandals..

After our 15 – 20 min drive to the resort once we arrived I will admit 100% that I was in awe. We were whisked away to the Butler lounge were we met with our 2 butlers. Taken to our room and shown where our butlers had planned out our dinner reservations for us, the calendar was only filled out until the Saturday we were there and were told that the rest of our stay would be planned for us when the following week was available. This was a little weird to me since we were only there for 7 nights and we came in on a Wednesday, but se la vie. It all worked out eventually – well except that in my request form to the butlers I explained I have a severe nut allergy and could not go to the Asian restaurants, yet we were booked for them anyways. It was easy to switch but still.

My husband and I booked a couples massage at the Spa!! What a fantastic experience that was (until my husband started snoring on the table beside me), but what a beautiful area to have a great massage – and the massage was wonderful too. Although I didn’t completely love the fact that after the massage they really push the upselling of products that they sell. Over all, great experience and I would do it again. I didn’t bring my phone with me to the spa in order to take pictures, but I really wish I had!!) So beautiful and relaxing.

We spent most of our days at the infinity pool, making friends and enjoying the blue Sandals floats they provide. We did venture to the ocean a few times, although it was pretty rough most of the days we were there. But the water!! Oh the water is crystal clear. Absolutely just beautiful.

I tried to get us a scuba diving experience as we had tried scuba diving in Jamaica, and I absolutely loved it. But the Scuba was all filled up for the entire week we were there. It was too bad, because (a) it’s included in your price for booking at Sandals (b) there are so many ship wrecks that aren’t far from the surface and it would have been super cool to do again. (c) I am dying to scuba dive again!!

Our butlers were pretty stellar. Every single day they had reserved us our chairs by the infinity pool, like we asked. We always had a cooler with beer and water with our chairs that could be refilled throughout our entire day. Our butler would bring us the oven fresh pizza or hamburgers, or jerk chicken for lunch right to the pool. (I loved having a phone to stay in contact with our butlers through out our stay.). It didn’t matter what we asked for they were more than accommodating for us.

Our butler would then meet us at our room about 10 mins before our dinner reservation and would walk us to each restaurant. My favorite was Butch’s Steakhouse!! FANTASTIC steak, and really good red wine too!

We really enjoyed the Merry Monkey for dinner as well. We even played a few games of billiards one night.

We didn’t make it to the nightly entertainment, because our reservations were at about the same time. But we did go to Lover’s Lane (the bowling alley, & bar after dinner ) and boy can that place party!!

The piano bar also was a fun place after dinner to hang out and do a sing along!

Have I mentioned the café? Not only can you get amazing coffee or pastries but ice cream!! That’s right, ice cream cones, and they were delicious. I am happy I didn’t find them too early in our stay because that could have been dangerous!!

Things I wish we had done while we were there: do the professional photo shoot! It’s free to do the photo shoot and pictures aren’t overly expensive considering what you would pay at other all inclusive resorts, and they really do get some great pictures. Don’t forgot to get a photo on the famous palm tree down the beach a bit. I also wish we had stayed in one of the rondoval rooms with private pool and butlers. They are a little more secluded from the rest of the resort.

We never did venture to “the quiet” pool, but it had a swim up bar and looked super relaxing if that is what you were looking for. They had great loungers by that pool that had drapes should you want even more privacy.

I Loved the fact that the two Barbados resorts are right beside each other which makes going between them so much easier than needing to get transportation separately to do a stay at one play at 2 or 3 resorts. It made sharing the resorts amenities seemless and I absolutely love that!!!

And by far my favorite place for breakfast was Le Parisienne restaurant. Located by the sky bar. Such a beautiful view each morning, fantastic blueberry pancakes and they sure know how to make a mimosa up there.

The only downfall to our visit which was not the resorts fault, but it was very windy while we were there. I was very happy I brought towel clips for our chairs because we needed them every single day. It could have been the time of year we went but it was very windy, and most days was over cast.

In case you were concerned, we managed to get a great tan, and had a fantastic time together and at the resort in general. Plus they just opened up a donut shop on site too.

Over all, I am very happy to have experienced Sandals Royal Barbados and I look forward to trying another one in the chain very soon.
